Studies in the Scriptures series
That sounds familiar to me. When were they published? What color were they? I mean the originals.
keep this one fact in mind about jehovah's witnesses.
they exist in three parts throughout their history.. 1. honest bible students attracted to the gimmicks of russell (charts, graphs, chronologies, pyramid inches, etc.
) expected the end of the world to come and they wanted to know more.. 2.contrarian hard heads under rutherford wanted to prove everybody was wrong about everything except themselves.

i have often heard the 1967 talk of district overseer charles sunutko regarding 1975, but does anyone know what became of him?
is he still around?
I didn't understand the implications back then. But I do now.
Yeah, me too. I was about 9 in 1966. And my sister was about 6. We remember all too vividly.

I remember these stories too. All the torture and the rapes and the imprisonments and horrible persecution. It was always happening in Afica but they almost assured us that it would be coming to the US soon and if we wanted to make it through Armageddon we would have to endure all this . Is this not mental and psychological abuse for children sitting there listening to this? I can assure that it was.
I just read the chapter in COC last night about Malawi vs Mexico. Disgusting! Maybe the GB are prejudiced against Africans. They didn't seem to care that they were being cruelly tortured in Malawi while the Mexicans were doing whatever they wanted. They sure used those African stories to instill fear in all of us. Boy, they held all the power and we just sat there. Of course, I was a child. I am not going to take responsibility for that. What were my parents thinking?
they 'served' our circuit back in the mid-90's.
he was my pioneer school instructor also.
i liked them - just wondered if anyone knows where they are now.
How about Bart and Mildred Thompson? They would be very elderly now if they are still alive. I would think 80 or more. He was the CO for one of the congregations that I grew up in. They always stayed at our house when they visited our congregation. They were very nice and personable people. We always enjoyed their visits.
back in the old days, i remember when the elders actually cared about the flock.
i was involved with helping older sisters, (octegenarians, widows) to take them to the grocery store and help them each week.. i remember helping when an older one would fall, and helping clean up the blood, and get there home in order from their return from the hospital.
just a lot of good works.. that stuff is out the window now.
In my experience, many years ago, it was always the R&F that did the "taking care of people" in the congregation and it was usually the women. I grew up in 3 different congregations and it also greatly varied between them as to the personal care that members received. One of the congregations we were in couldn't have cared less if people were sick or had surgery or needed help.

The brothers and sisters who really dug in to investigate the details of theology that led to the debacle over 1975 eventually found themselves confronting the facts. The facts proved they were in a crackpot end of the world cult run by people with no authority whatsoever from Jehovah
I think this very much applies to my father. I was already out before this time but my father was still hanging in there sporadically. He was gone completely after the 1975 debacle. My father died suddenly in 1978 and I never had a chance to talk about it with him. JW had become something that was just not mentioned in our house. I think my father was deeply embarrassed, humiliated and regretful of the 25 years he had given to this religion. He was a very proud man and was not able to express his feelings about it before he died. I would even go so far as to say the stress of all this probably somewhat contributed to his death..

Yes, I was there. They should not be allowed to forget it.
Welcome, Jazz!
i had a bible study with a jehovah's witness for the past year and a half.
i was also attending meetings, but never went out in field service.
during a recent study, i told the conductor that i didn't believe in the 'annointed' & didn't believe the fds had a 'hotline' to jehovah.

Welcome! Have nothing more to do with this cult. They have seen that you use your mind and question things. They will have nothing more to do with you. I'm sorry that happened to you but you have friends that completely understand here.
i just signed up here, so i guess i should let everyone know a few things about myself.. my maternal grandfather was an elder in a congregation here, and he and my grandmother raised my mother quite strictly as a jehovah's witness.
my father's father was also a jehovah's witness, though much less devout.
when my parents were in their mid-20's they more or less disassociated themselves from the flock.
Hi gloobster and welcome! I am older than you but there are a lot of things about your story that are similar to mine and I can relate to. My mother also just died May 14 and it has stirred up a lot of old feelings that drove me to finding this website. I have been on it about 2 weeks and I have found that I can even discuss some of these things with my husband now and I have never been able to before without bursting into tears. This website has been a TREMENDOUS therapy for me!
